This research document is chapter 14 of a book titled Planning Health Promotion Programs: An Intervention Mapping Approach. This chapter discusses the use of community-based planning methods, the development of performance objectives for lay health workers and the training and materials involved in program adoption and implementation. Cultivando la Salud, a breast and cervical cancer educational program, is an excellent example of a participatory community-based planning intervention strategy that utilizes lay health workers.
