Author: Passel, Jeffrey S.
Date Published: 2010

The estimates presented in this research document show trends in the unauthroized populations and flows into the country, however, the analysis does not explain why these changes occurred. During the perios covered (2000-2009), there have been major shifts in the level of immigration enforcement and in enforcement strategies, as well as large swings in the U.S. Economy. Research has shown: (more information in document) 1. Inflow of unauthorized immigratns to the U.S. was two-thirds less in the March 2007 to March 2009 period than March 2000- March 2005. 2. Decline contributed to overall reduction of 8% in number of unauthorized immigrants. 3. Most marked decline has been among Latin Americans from 2007-2009 which decreased by 22%.
