Report on the Health Care Problems of Agricultural Migrants

Author: Jager, Boi Jon
Date Published: 1964

This report is about domestic agricultural migrant workers and their problems. It focuses on their health problems as seen through the availability of medical services, the amounts used, and the costs of providing them with this care. The data presented will be used to establish baseline information for further work with migrant problems in general. Three main conclusions were drawn: 1. Large financial loss suffered by the studied community providing medical care to agricultural migrants was based more on attitude and assumptions than on fact. 2. Migrants clearly appeared to have a level of medical care that was far below the level of the average population. 3. The entire migrant environment was so severe that these conditions must be altered before any major improvements in the general health level of migrants can be achieved.
