This research document details the demographic breakdown of farmworkers in 1981. Migrant workers only accounted for 5% of all hired farmworkers, however, reasons for the decline in the number of migrants from 1979-1981 are not clear. One possibility is due to changing production level and agricultural practices. Another possibility may be that farm operators were increasingly substituting illegal aliens for domestic farm workers.
Demographic breakdown included (but not limited to): age, sex, racial/ethnic group, earnings, employment, and education.
