Occupational Behaviors and Farmworkers' Pesticide Exposure: Findings from a Study in Monterey County, California

Author: Salvatore, A
Date Published: 2008

Since pesticide exposure is a frequent occupational hazard for farmworkers, this article assesses which precautionary practices are most effective at protecting farmworkers from pesticides. 73 strawberry fieldworkers self-reported their occupational behaviors, and they were also measured for urinary metabolite levels. Wearing clean and protective clothing, hand-washing and hand gloves were associated with decreased pesticide metabolic levels.
