The detection and management of gestational diabetes mellitus, as with most health problems, presents a particular problem among migrant farmworkers. Gestational diabetes has been defined as an abnormal glucose tolerance which develops during pregnancy and remits after the conclusion of pregnancy. It has become common practice to screen women for gestational diabetes when certain risk factors are present.
