This study aims to provide a better understanding of etiology and the frequency of diarrheal diseases in the Central Valley of California. Migrant farm labor camps, certain town fringe areas, and a housing project were studied to determine the prevalence of Shigella infections and to establish their relationships to a high infant mortality from diarrhea.
