This study examines differences in disability-free and disabled life expectancy associated with rural or urban residence. It identifies differences in healthy life expectancy that may signal important policy needs. Findings show that individuals in rural areas lived longer lives than those in urban areas and also lived more disability free years, as well as more disabled years and a notably greater percentage of their lives with a disability.
