This study examines hospitalization for diabetes, congestive heart failure and asthma among residents of South Carolina who were insured by Medicaid or by a large private insurance plan. Researches looked at hospitalizations per year among rural and minority residents and compared the findings to a baseline of urban whites. The key results from this study show that hospitalization rates were not consistently higher for rural or minority populations than for urban whites.
