Outcomes Of The California Ban On Pharmaceutical Lindane: Clinical And Ecologic Impacts
Author: Humphreys, Elizabeth
Date Published: 2008
This article describes the effects that the California ban on lindane, a pharmaceutical treatment used for lice and scabies, has had on wastewater quality, unintentional exposures and clinical practices. Because this is the first time that a pharmaceutical has been outlawed to protect water quality, it provides a rare opportunity to evaluate the possible or potential outcomes of future public health interventions aimed at reducing pharmaceutical water contamination. Through data compilation and assessment, the authors conclude that elimination of pharmaceutical lindane produced environmental benefits and positive health effects.
