Cultivating Farmworker Rights: Ending The Exploitation Of Immigrant And Migrant Farmworkers In BC
Author: Fairey, David
Date Published: 2008
This report examines the impact of recent provincial policy changes on BC Indo-Canadian immigrant and Mexican migrant farmworkers. It takes a focus on workers, sometimes called hand-harvesters, who work seasonally in the harvesting, processing and packing of fruits and vegetables in the Fraser Valley. The findings of this study suggest that current conditions for BC farmworkers are
untenable and immigrant and migrant farmworkers are at the mercy of a system that exploits, threatens and silences them while it places their lives in danger and excludes them from a range of employment standards.
