Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers in New Mexico: A Study of High Impact Areas Based on Agricultural Data

Author: Burke, Daniel
Date Published: 1987

The objective of this study is to produce reliable estimates of migrant and seasonal farmworkers (MSFWs) by county and season in the state of New Mexico. No accurate census of the population exists at present. The study follows the Public Health Service definitions that apply to Section 329 Migrant Health Centers. A principle use envisioned for the information in this report is for Migrant and Community Health Centers and Public Health Offices to plan for the health care needs of these populations. Such planning is currently limited to the individuals who actually find their way to the clinics as patients since there is no accurate census of the subgroups as a whole. The estimate should be useful for other human services as well.
