This document profiles hired farmworkers in terms of the economic, legal, and social realms of life, and serves as an update of the 2000 Economic Research Service analysis. By using current data, this report includes expanded sections on legal status, poverty, housing, and use of social services. The research aims to answer many questions on hired farmworkers, which has become more important as hired farmworkers play an important part in the agricultural industry at the same time that the U.S. struggles to deal with immigration. Findings are reported on topics including labor demand, demographics, legal status, employment, housing conditions and health.
