This article addresses the potential health problems related to irrigation agriculture, including mosquitoes, flies, and rodents (vector animals that carry disease). Also discusses three types of irrigation practiced in California: continuous flooding for rice culture, intermittent flooding of pasture lands, and intermittent irrigation of row crops such as cotton; and the adverse environmental effects of water waste, industrial waste, loss of natural resources, and smog.
