This study reports on the indigenous Oaxacan communities in California, which consists of a growing number of immigrants from the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. It begins with background information regarding Oaxacan migrations to the U.S., and follows with a review of the principal issues affecting the health and well-being of Oaxacans in California and their barriers to outreach. Next are sections that overview the principal Oaxacan communities in California by region, with population estimates and information on principal places of residence. Recommendations on how to improve outreach to this group is also included.
