This journal article discusses the demand and need for migrant farmworkers in the South Jersey region. After a brief introduction about South Jersey's migrant farmworker history since the 1900s, the first section discusses how mechanization requires more farm hands and that New Jersey farmers first looked to Puerto Rico workers to fill this need. The rest of the article discusses in greater detail the Puerto Rican labor program and the positive impact it has had in Puerto Rico rural areas. At the end of the article, a short and separate passage discusses the U.S. government's requirement of seatbelts in automobiles that it purchases.
