This paper explores two isolated Spanish-speaking villages in NM and CO and their perceptions of "health" as seen through their folk medical systems. A high level of physical activity, a well-fleshed body, and the absence of pain are the fundamental principles of health for these people, and these principles are compared and contrasted with modern Western medical practices.
