The objectives of this study were to determine if immigrants seek health care or treatment later than other HIV-infected persons in San Mateo County, located in northern California. The other purpose of this study is to describe the possible reasons for delayed treatment as identified in interviews with recently HIV diagnosed Hispanics. As an understanding of the causes of delayed presentation may be used to enhance prevention programs for immigrants in California. With a population that is 26 percent foreign born California has been the center of national discourse on issues of health and immigration.
