This study looks at accurate diagnosis and treatment of depression associated with the farmworkers ability to retain employment and increase their productivity. The association between depression and functional impairment has yet to be investigated in the seasonal and migrant Hispanic farmworker population. There is wide variability in the reported prevalence of depression in Hispanic farmworker because most studies measured depressive symptoms using depression screening scales and not actual clinical depression.
