Illness In The Farm Population Of Two Homogeneous Areas of Missouri

Author: University of Missouri College of Agriculture
Date Published: 1952

The document is a research bulletin that opens with an introduction by Robert L. McNamara that discusses the need for data on rural and farm workers and then overviews the study, which examines farm households' illness measured by days lost from work. Study participants included farm households from northern and southern Missouri. The remaining report covers standards and procedures of the study and its following findings and conclusions. Findings show that higher rates of illness appear in areas of lower socio-economic ranking and that at least 5 percent of farmworkers are unable to work on a given day because of illness. Another important finding was that chronic or prolonged illness is a problem of a serious proportion of farmworkers.
