Promotores De Salud: Reducing The Spread Of HIV/AIDS Within Migrant And Seasonal Farmworker Communities

Author: Davis, Shelley
Date Published: 2000

The Promotores De Salud (lay health educators) is a program model that trained 85 men, women and adolescents from border communities to spread AIDS prevention messages to their peers. In a 2-year period, they reached 21,000 farmworker family members and distributed thousands of fotonovelas, brochures, and condoms. This model is an effective one which can be replicated to reach farmworkers and other at-risk minority groups throughout the nation.
