The Subcontracted Worker Initiative (SWI) grew out of the recognition that migrant farmworkers, office-building service workers, garment workers, and computer programmers, among others, share common, detrimental experiences: extensive use by their employers of labor subcontracting. This report extracts from the SWI several key issues regarding employers' practices and contingent workers' strategies. This report also discusses: What Are The Problems That Subcontracted Workers Confront; How to Ameliorate the Problems of Subcontracted Workers; Labor And Community Organizing, Recent Development and Future Directions; and Conclusions and Recommendations for the Future of Subcontracting Worker Organizing.
