We Need Each Other: An Introduction to Potential Partners

Author: Texas Department of Health

This video is about two women being diagnosed with breast cancer, and how they live daily with it. It's estimated that women travel 60 miles for screening because of their own city not having health care because of funding. They just recently received a grant to be able to screen women 50 and over. Luckily, they were able to find the breast cancer early in the two women and provide treatment. Women are able to get rides to their appointment through the program Partners. Partners helps women out whether financially or emotionally or through legislative work. One way the community tries to alert women about breast cancer screening is through mass mail. It costs $120 for an exam and mammogram for women who have never been screened, $425 for a biopsy, $400 for travel to treatment, $50,000 a month worth of radio ads, $2500 for nurse training, and $75 for transportation for 50 women to make their doctor appointments. There are opportunities to volunteer their time to the community whether it's distributing flyers, financially, taking a woman to her appointment or just being there for support. Available in DVD format.
