Cervical Cancer: A Warning to Women

Author: Women for Better Health
Date Published: 1991

This video is about cervical cancer and prevention. 7, 000 women die per year because of cervical cancer. Pap smears are by definition screening tests. They are not 100% effective, although they are detecting some new cancers. The problem with pap smears is that they are screened through human judgment. Some labs pay their workers per slide or salary. When they are paid per slide, there is more room for misjudgments. If a person is detected too late, they could face having a hysterectomy. There are many methods for treatment upon detecting the cancer early. There is no treatment for the disease HPV. Although there is a link between HPV and cervical cancer, there is no results showing HPV causes cervical cancer. The people at highest risk for cervical cancer are women who have had sex at an early age, sex with multiple partners; more than two, and women with a history of STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases). Communication between a physician and a pathologist is very important. There could be problems if there are misunderstandings of terms between one another. Available in DVD format.
