The people of the U.S./Mexico border--one of the most medically underserved regions in the U.S.--will become increasingly dependent on the programs of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) as the changes produced by NAFTA, managed Medicaid, welfare reform, and immigration reform unfold. This study examines key demographics, health, and health resource indicators for 11 Texas counties stretching along the border. In that context, the study discusses NAFTA, its health provisions, and their impact on the health status of that region.
