Because of the difficulties inherent in a migrant farmworker lifestyle, several authors over the past two decades conjectured that migrant farmworkers were at risk for mental health problems. However, researchers have only recently begun to assess the mental health status of migrant farmworkers in the United States. Research on the mental health of migrant farmworkers is still infrequent, but the picture that is slowly emerging reveals a population at risk for the development of psychiatric difficulties.
