A Modified Community Oriented Primary Care Model for the Delivery of Migrant Health Care

Author: Zavaleta, Antonio N.
Date Published: 1992

This paper discusses the demographics of the migrant farmworker population, and their particular health risks. It goes on to discuss several studies that further illustrate the marginal health status of migrants. It then presents a model program for the delivery of health care to migrants, the Community Oriented Primary Care (COPRIMA) model. This project targeted the colonias of the Brownsville area and provides the qualifying population with diagnosis and treatment, emergency services for acute illness, family planning services, preventative services, health education, and laboratory and other diagnostic services.
