This fact sheet describes the uses and dangers associated with the fumigant Metam Sodium. These fumigants are classified by the EPA in its most hazardous acute toxicity category. Symptoms of exposure include eye irritation, skin rash, headache, nausea, shortness of breath, and fainting. Laboratory tests indicate the fumigant suppresses activity in the immune system, causes cancers, increased fetal loss in pregnant animals and causes birth defects
