This paper provides a review of varying categories of research and technology and how they are applied or could be applied in the Border region. It provides recommendations and descriptions of mechanisms for the introduction of research and technology. There are abundant research opportunities along the Border that have the potential of improving the quality of health care and quality of life of the predominantly Hispanic population. Traditional bench and clinical research methods can be applied to the common health problems that affects this population with the expectation that fundamental understanding of these disease processes will occur. Every effort should be made to enhance the resources and capabilities that are necessary for this endeavor. A greater emphasis must be placed on research the targets health care delivery systems and technology transfer and extension to reach border populations.
