As you read this, dozens--or possibly thousands--of "illegal aliens" are commuting from Mexico to work in the United States. Rush hour starts at dark. Unlike legal workers in the U.S., illegal alien workers rarely commute on public roads or public transportation. They travel an extensive network of well-worn routes that don't appear on the Rand-McNally. The photos on these pages were taken last year during thee different commutes with illegal aliens. All of the men I traveled with were in search of farm work in the Southwest.
