Enumeration study that provides local, state, regional, and national estimates of the number of seasonal migratory and nonmigratory farmworkers and family members. These estimates have long been needed to form a more accurate determination of the target population for the Migrant Health Program. Previous data used by the program were more than five years old and limited to migrant farmworkers; they did not include seasonal farmworkers. In addition, continuing changes in the living patterns of the major ethnic groups which make up the seasonal agricultural labor force and innovations in farming practices, particularly crop mechanization, have significantly influenced the aggregate hired farm work force engaged in seasonal labor, its geographic distribution, and its demographic characteristics over the years.
