National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, 1999 Promotion Kit

Author: AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation
Date Published: 1999

Breast cancer is the leading cancer diagnosed in women in America. This year, more than 175,000 women will learn for the first time that they have this disease and more than 43,000 women will lose their lives. However, when breast cancer is detected early and treated promptly, suffering and ultimately the loss of life can be significantly reduced. Routine screening mammography is the single most effective method to detect breast changes that may be cancer, long before physical symptoms can be seen or felt. This promotion kit contains a step-by-step volunteer guide to help you bring information to clinics, worksites, community centers, fairs and festivals, shopping malls, churches, etc. General breast cancer information, including details about how to obtain free or low-cost mammograms can be found on pages 2 through 4. You'll also find tips on talking to the media and a list of breast cancer experts who are available to speak at conferences or health education seminars. A catalog describes additional materials available from the NBCAM Board of Sponsors for both the public and health professionals. Posters, brochures, and fact sheets are provided in black and white to encourage easy reproduction and distribution. This item is not available for distribution. Please contact NCFH at (512) 312-5464 for more information on this resource.
