The American health care system, while widely recognized as providing the most sophisticated medical care in the world, is failing to offer accessible, affordable services for millions of its people. Too many of our people are unable to find health care at prices they can afford; too many babies die; too many children and adults suffer from conditions that could have been prevented; too many people cannot obtain health insurance because it is not available to them, because it is too expensive, or because they are considered too high an insurance risk. Demographic and economic changes over the past decade have significantly compromised access to the health care system for millions of Americans.
