Teaching Pesticide Health and Safety: Trainer's Workshop Packet

Author: Larson, Alice Carol
Date Published: 1985

This is a packet of various materials that comprise the Teaching Pesticide Health and Safety (TPHS) program. The TPHS is a program to educate fieldworkers, farmers, and the families of both groups to use pesticides safely to stay health. Training is aimed particularly at non-certified applicators who mix or load chemicals or handle containers in which pesticides have been placed. This program is not concerned with the use or misuse of pesticides themselves but with public education to reduce pesticide-related illness. It revolves around the idea that progress can only be made and attitudes changed toward safe pesticide practices if all segments of the community are involved. The program provides material and information on pesticide health and safety, trains people to educate others, promotes and monitors use, evaluates effectiveness and establishes a pattern will be self-supporting and of long range benefit to the communities in which it is undertaken.
