First National Farmworker Food Conference, Volume II: Annual Report Proceedings: Towards Self-Sufficiency

Author: National Association of Farmworker Organizations
Date Published: 1979

The First National Farmworker Food Conference was dedicated to making the voice of farmworkers heard and providing the skills to transform ideas into reality. Already a number of farmworker organizations have started mobilizing their communities to attack the rising costs of food. The advantages and obstacles to these ideas were discussed at the conference. Experienced technicians were on hand to offer advice and help solve problems. There were outdoor workshops, including actual construction of a solar food drier and a visit to a community garden. Most importantly, there were representatives of other farmworker groups from all over the country, rich with experience and a collective to struggle to improve the conditions in which farmworkers live, and to help give them the strength to fight.
