OJO! Con Tu Vista: An Eye Injury Prevention Series For Citrus Workers

Author: The Rural Women's Health Project
Date Published: 1999

This packet provides patient education material for an injury prevention program designed for citrus workers. The packet includes a trainer's flip chart, a user's guide and 3 fotonovelas. Farmworkers face many occupational dangers while working in the fields. One of the most prevalent problems are eye injuries. Fortunately, most injuries to the eye are preventable. Yet another eye problem experienced by farmworkers is Pterygium. Through education and the implementation of basic safety precautions, workers can avoid the discomfort of eye problems and the difficulty of accessing health care. Implementing an Eye Care Safety Program will certainly make an impact on reversing high incidences of preventable eye injuries and conditions. The Eye Care Safety Series, !OJO! con tu vista, addresses six specific topics: (1) Eye injury prevention in the fields; (2) Common eye injuries (scratches, punctures, and debris); (3) Pterygium; (4) First Aid Dos and Don'ts; (5) Workmen's Compensation; (6) Accessing Health Care.
