This report overviews HIV/AIDS issues faced by Hispanics in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas, and then recommends policy changes to ensure that this group receives and develops adequate resources to fight the spread of HIV. The report beings by discussing the risk factors that lead a disproportionate amount of Hispanics in the Southwest to contract HIV/AIDS. It then moves on to recommend policy legislation, including funding for Hispanic community-based prevention strategies, models and services; training and technical assistance for health professionals; research to enhance knowledge on HIV/AIDS among Hispanics; an increased representation of Hispanics in areas of government related to HIV/AIDS; and an establishment of federal/state partnerships.
