Author: Salgado de Snyder, V. Nelly
Date Published: 1992

This is a study that examines migrant wives who remain in their country of origin and original communities while their husbands migrate for work to the United States. The study investigated the copying strategies of 202 Mexican women living in Mexico who were married to international migrants living in the U.S. Coping strategies include directly solving a problem, internalizing emotion, externalizing emotion, avoiding a problem, and negating a problem. Six conflict areas were also explored, including conflict with their children, spouse, extended family, friends, personal issues and economic situation. The only part of this study that is written in English is a brief summary and the rest is written in Spanish.
