Pharmacy Services In Community and Migrant Health Centers

Author: United States Department of Health and Human Services
Date Published: 1988

The purpose of this study is to provide information which can help other community and migrant health centers provide the most effective pharmacy services, and to aid in the development of appropriate policy and guidelines in relation to pharmacy services in community and migrant health centers. C/MHCs have very different approaches to providing this service ranging from fully licensed on-site pharmacies to virtually no formal arrangement and only informal referrals to local retail pharmacies. Ten health centers of varying size, location and type which offer services, were examined. Current literature on pharmacy services was reviewed and how pharmacy services are provided in the private sector, principally in HMOs, was examined.
