"The Ripe Harvest" is a compilation of original writings by authors who have worked closely with migrant children in a variety of settings. Designed for educators and lay people who are concerned with teaching migrant children, this volume is divided into three sections. Part I discusses human considerations--the dilatory effects of poor health on learning ability and the fact that these children belong to a culture that they must be allowed to retain while learning to understand and live in society's dominant cultural mold. The total cumulative effects of environmental deprivation are documented to give perspective to the human dimension of migrant children. Part II considers curricular reforms necessary to effect optimum learning. The authors build on the theme of using the experiences of the children as a basis for curriculum development. Part III is devoted to the setting up of national goals for the education and welfare of migrant children and the preservice and inservice training of their teachers. An extensive bibliography includes books, periodicals, miscellaneous papers, and bibliographies with migrant references.
